8-11 May 2008, Kardinal Schulte Haus, Cologne, Germany
The Kardinal-Schulte-Haus is located about 20 km outside the city centre of Cologne (Köln). Cologne is located on the River Rhine in the southern part of the Lower Rhine Embayment (55 m a.s.l.).
The Romans founded the city in the year 64 A.D. and during Medieval times Cologne was at times the largest European city north of the Alps. Cologne is well known for its large number of medieval churches, especially its most famous the gothic cathedral, the “Kölner Dom”, which is located in the heart of the city centre, close to the main station. The town of Bergisch-Gladbach, having a population of about 110,000, lies on the outskirts of the Rhine-Ruhr agglomeration, marginal to the rural environment of the ‘Bergisches Land’ midlands. Long-year average temperature in the regions is 17° C during July. However, Cologne summers can also be rather warm with temperatures as high as 30° C, or cool and moist.
Cologne/Bonn airport serves only European flights but offers great opportunities for those preferring low-budget transportation. Overseas connections are available from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam airports, which are connected to Cologne city centre by local traffic and high-speed train (ICE), respectively. Cologne is also easily reachable for those traveling from Belgium, France, or the Netherlands by high-speed train (Thalys, ICE). Connection to the conference site from Cologne main station is available by local traffic (20 to 30 min).
A number of rooms has been reserved at the conference site, the ‘Kardinal-Schulte-Haus’, which was built in Bensberg during the years 1926-1929 to house the priest seminary of the Archbishopric of Cologne.
Those attending the conference will be accommodated on-site and accommodation fees include full board accommodation during the entire conference May 8-11. Accommodation is available in 44 single and 110 double rooms.
